The Flower Princess

Reading up on public projection form Evan Roth's thesis... he uses a car battery running through and DC to AC converter which powers a 2200 lumens digital projector. A vga cable connects form a laptop to the projector. He says that 2200 lumens is the least amount of brightness for the throw since the urban environment never reaches complete darkness. A low lit wall and no obstructions is key.

Came off of a good midterm revuew today, accomplished what Iw anted to ahve by midterm, but was still not completely pleased with my presentation. I think I may have let some people down who expected a more exciting presentation. I'd just say let's wait for the final. I had big plans, but on this round it was getting to the prototypes that i was most concerned about showing and allowing people to experience. I think that went well, and after taking a nap that afternoon I woke up and reflected positively ont he whole thing. Still I feel anxious to build and get this where I want to have it. I solid comment on our system and behavior in interpretting the information that we are being inundatede with namesly what we get fomr our televisions and visual news media.
Emailing with Even Roth today... he pointed out a project called cool hunting. this was a project by Troika... the made a hand held device that projected the contents of your cellphone screen onto whatever you aimed it thus, giving new context to what you were witnessing. I especially like the one that shows the street sign and the message 'where are we all going' projected onto it. Int his porject it's possible to text in to the device. However why not just be able to type out what you want projected instead of a cellphone display? hmmmm. somehting to think about, why cell phones and what kind of content/context will lend itself to my project that people won't be saying we coulda done that with a keypad, or a button to trigger an action. I guess it all lends itself to all of us haveing this 'always connected' device in our pockets. this excludes the people that don't use cellphones and don't have txt messaging, but frankly I don't care.

txting

Hats off to Dave DelaCosta and Ben Bacon for offering time and thoughts into making what the average man finds impossible, possible. I found a txt program that works off bluetooth and actually downloads the txt files to the computer. Next steps will be to parse the xml file that is the text messaging. Nothing a little perl can't handle... off to read Perl for Dummies, I'm sure I'll learn it all in one night. It's easy right.

Happy that I don't have to trade in the new phone, it's very pretty, but because it didn't work on symbian operating system I was worried I'd have to go returnt his phone for the 3rd time and get a symbian blutooth device. Blue phone elite is the way to go...

All this programming seems really daunting and I'm happy I'me receiving the help I'm getting, but it's still kind of frustrating to ahve all these ideas and knwo what needs to happen, but not be able to make it so. Not out of the woods yet, need to get my new thesis site up, get the system working and a successful test of it, define my prototype for Friday and get cranking.

life...

and then you ride the train and you see a guy that looks like the kinda guy you were 10 years ago. He's standing dressed as you might have been, reading a book, leaning against the doors. Being in your thirties is funny, you are more likely to mix with people that are 10 years older and 10 years younger, thus reminding you of where you came from and where you may go. Allt he years of college and beofre never gave you this kind of mix... in most cases people were only 3-4 year different in age. Plus those are such formative categorizing years... much more self centered in discover and invention of yourself. You had a label by the year of school you were in, same with teens and below... as an 18 year old you weren't mixing with 10 year olds unless it was a sibling.

But now you mix, the post college urban life is mixing with ghosts of yourself and a foreshadowed future.

movie idea

Noah's arc... modern day guy, spoken to by god , the guy is a unitarian and his dialogue may go something like this.".. but god I'm a unitarian..". and that's when the movie takes off.

Also when will the fighting back begin in regard to the MLA style... perhaps we'd do much better with a different writing style, have you ever thought of that? i mean it's a monopoly on style... is that acceptable?

TV's with stick ons.

a series of tv's with a head being shown form each one. the user can take a collection of hats and moustaches and other attachables and dress up the tv... celebrity faces, political faces normal people.

think mr. potato head meets max headroom meets moustaches.

perhaps there's one person invited to look into a confined space and there's a camera on him and he watches people decorate his face appaering on another screen? you get to see what people think of you or think of how you should be...
