txtual healing

I go out I think of my dad... Everything reminds me of him, especially the the things that weren't hiim, but he'd have an opinion about. I miss him and I don't even understand it... but I do understand what it means to miss somethign that won't be able to swing by, pass through, or ring you on the phone.

txt graffitti

dropping thoughts and observations through text messaging... text bombing.

Stupidity

America can't handle a movie about 2 cowboys that fall in love, but they can handle a movie about kevin costner sleeping with every woman in your family. grandma, mom and jennifer aniston. silly silly and dissapointing. I guess some guy banging 3 generations of ladies in 'rumor has it' is a laugh riot and should of course be the feel good movie of the year, perfect for xmas release.

video mails

I'd liek to continue playing with the idea of the video mails... or posting them. what does it meant o talk to the camera as if it is somebody or a whole group of people...

I watched You me and everyone we know... it was a really nice movie, frustrating because I saw the notion of the video email I did for my birthday, yet hadn't seen the movie... sucks when you do something that has been done, but you never knew it. anyway. they aren't the same...

a conversation in minimal

I need to plant text messages, get responses get people to communicate, begin a conversation in minimal...

get the txt projected, get the actors reading it. acting and beahving, beahviors based on texting... other world... make believe... the other end of the line... post numbers to text message to? build a network that can answer questions through txting? clever ideas and responses... beyond a computer response or touring test. a network of good... an administration if you will for positivity. Do things get posted and shared... hmm.

passworded man

Password... show your password... reveal it let it go... how many passwords do we have? how many times do we enter it wrong? What's that mean?

Imagine the government starts revealing people's passwords to wipe them out them, if you get wiped out digitally you no longer exist, no atm, no email, ntohing. Imagine creating A whole experience of living in someone's files to do what ever you want in there... a community personality of letting people have at the insides of a made up person. dynamically created by what we enter into him. like entering someone's files in cyberspace and make them yer own... it's like wikipedia on crack. The persons persona would be created and populated... then the information would be distributed for people to mess with... nobody, but the creator would have the admin function to change the password or username.

Final Crits

So I'm definitely letting today's crit get to me which included 3 ' I don't understand's '. I'm just not sure how to present my project without too much or too little explanation. It's safe to say it's going to be an interactive performance piece that is augmented by the cell phone. Aside from mateo, It seemed they didn't understand that idea. It seemed as though Mateo understood everything about what I showed. What does that mean?

I'm just frustrated cause after deciding to bite off the topic of simulacra, media and politics and getting the project to where it is just to hear such negativity towards it is a downer. Personally I think my project is incredibly interesting. I love where it's come from and where it is going. I see numerous applications for a lot of what I've discovered created and will creat. Maybe they thought the improv pieces was supposed to be the final piece? I don't know. I know they aren't stupid people, but hell if I know what to feel after receiving no constructive feedback or discussion. I do love discussion.

Maybe it was the positive feedback and interest in the project that really made me feel that I was explaining it well enough and clear enough. I've struggled to keep all the concepts in the piece and it was just disheartening to not receive recognition of how far I'd gotten. Did i make it look to easy? ha. anyway, I'm just chewing yer ear off and a little pissed to end the semester on what felt like a pointless presentation. Pointless in the sense that it didn't garner much discussion.

Now I have to go write this paper that for all i know is going to accomplish not much more than my presentation.

A Step farther

We're being medicated like never before, and satiated by visuals... you don't ahve to look out the tinted wndows of your minivans anymore, you have tv and movies to show you what's around. It all takes us away.

spirit lights

place a device that gives off a faint signal or can be turned into a visual, like a map. You could place a receiver in your living room, or part of an artpiece. You bury it when you bury a loved one, it goes with them and is activated on burial. then your receiver shines or emits a light or image showing that the sensor is there with the loved one.

My action script

The action script for the txt to speech:

txtual healing

I think that's gonna be the name... txtual healing... hmmm.

Three Projects

I have three projects defined to myself...

-theater piece... successful workshop of the idea tonight.

-gallery wall projection or monitor screen interactive comic strips. Been testing and enjoying results...

-Large scale street projections... as legal protest. easy to set up and project, just light.

oh right , the projectionists

Yeah, so, like Evan Roth's project found place in delivering a message from the people in a way that can't be found as illegal. A movement in light generated art develops... displaying controversial messages to the people, we come out to discuss and look at a forum for information between the people and understood by the people... wether it's passive or more dynamic in terms of the public displaying their messages say through text messaging, the projection can be used very effectively to show community generated messages. Perhaps amid all the advertising we are surrounded with these becons of information can sprout up and project a possible future... what happens next is what it's about.

the projectionist movement

TOday was great. I was skeptical of what the results for the txt messaging workshop I had to night, but it really showed some potential. Kelly, Laura and Sheila were there. Tommy was shot in the head, but recoupurating, and realxing. Ally was there to help recoup. Couple formulas we considered tonight. It was great to feel a group again. Robbie had to work. We started with 2 actors just delivering the line they were given, they would just say the line the way they felt and not pay attention to the other. Then we had them say the lines to eachother and feel out what they wanted to do and what they were saying and how they related to the other. So the scene becomes very improvish, maybe too much so... I want to keep the attention on the txt, but I think I need to keep testing the improv angle.

I did like the results from the 3rd test where I wanted to see more scripting of the scene, so we gave them identities and a scenario to play out dramatically. Laura played a woman going to the doctors office and the Sheila, the doctor, comes in to tell her she has cancer. The actors play out the scene as if that's what being said, but all of their lines are the text messages written on note cards.

So If they were on stage maybe they'd be reading them written on a wall as they come in from viewers phones. Who's text will be the one read while she is reacting to the doctors fatal news? What will be said vs. what is being displayed. Is the visual the only thing that matters? when do all words lose meaning because we are so robotic in our paths in life? And the control of the language we use is from everybody else, or whoever programmed out visual media? Our language becomes pointless.

Perhaps this is the level at which animals live, it's simple sounds and chirps and movements to stay alive and here humans are given so much more yet it's being shrunken the language we listen to, pay attention to, and use to move through our dangerous world. Why the hell are their always 2 sides? can't we go 3-d or more? crap.

I am pretty sure that Laura and Sheila had good time, partly for brushing off the cobwebs (that goes for all of us) and I think they saw some fun potential in the acting. I was psyched kell and I were on the same foot with what we saw... it was good. Good discussion too.

Very exciting... ok more work to do.

new favorite line

we got the hydroponic love and now we're gonna smoke it.

King Kong

it's crazy but i'm truely looking forward to this film... It reminds me of the holidays. They used to always play the classic monster movies. But king kong is special, it's an incredible love story... boy falls for girl, will do anything for girl , has no concept of not loving her, he goes to a whole new world for her and she'll never be his, but he dies never knowing it wasn't possible... I think everyone has felt like King Kong at somepoint. Or wish they could be so convicted.

I'm psyched for this one.

FINAL STEPS

really un-motivated to work right now... wasted all saturday, helped kell get a xmas tree... I have my 9 frames all working, I need a visual story, comic book style, should probably visit a comic book store... I just need visuals, and people do the rest, what could be putin there that comments on invented reality. Or do I put such familiar icons that people can just put down there interpretations. Sort of like poster art grafitti conversations... ya know the old color ina black tooth on the big smiling picture of the news anchor's poster in the subway, or get into a political discussion on the bathroom walls. what images will fuel a more thoughtful experience? God I'm tired of thinking.

I also need to get my paper together. I feel there's just too much info to sort through and I'm not staying on track writing it into a paper that describes my project.

I'm excited to build this comic, I'm not excited to write this paper.

9 frame comic

like the size of one page. 9 frames people can place text into seperately, just by prepending their text with the frame number they want it in. Will people drive the story, or will one person take it over. don't know the content or story, don't know the illustration style... i'll do it, photo? stick figure? clipart? combination?

sort of excited again, but no time left. need to get crack'n... up early, biking in. Do'n the good thinking this way.

This Wednesday

Kelly is pushing to get things rolling. She likes the idea and so we're gonna try and do a dry run of somesort in a studio on wednesday. It'll take some prodding, but this could really be an intersting test run... write sayings on pieces of paper, the more people participating the more they have to read... hand them the pieces of paper to simulate reading it. See what this looks like. record it.

STAGE PERFORMANCE (intial idea)

A man and a woman facing the back of the stage but turned 45 dgrs away form eachother. The audience text messages sayings, jibberish, thoughts, commands, etc. to 2 actors (for now). The actor reads the text as it is projected in front of them. The actors work at how to deliver lines the most effectively (only spoken, to themselves, to eachother, to the audience). The audience can direct a message to a particular actor.

I think this process lends itself to emergent behavior that controls the people and narrative on stage. the audience would (hopefully) move past the initial stage of texting in and just listening to the performers, the audience would then start directing them to interact with eachother. The audience would have to get past just saying dirty words, or not, but I think it would move more into what can we make them do to eachother and behave on stage. they could tell them to love, to get naked, to kiss, other things. We'd have to be prepared for the awkward sayings. Some of the messages may be like 'kill the person' or something like that could be taken very seriously in terms of actions on stage.

abreviated behavior towards eachother, through abbreviated sentences and thoughts.

walkie

talkie is the name of the first indie film we'll do.

The second will be run the red light.
